HOW TO MAKE A WATERMELON MARGARITA

- Coat the rim of a glass with lime juice. Roll in Tajin.
- Pour in the spicy watermelon margarita. Garnish with jalapeño and watermelon slices.
POPULAR SUBSTITUTIONS AND VARIATIONS
- This can also be made as a watermelon margarita on the rocks, though you’ll still want to blend up the watermelon and jalapeno to create a base for the drink.
- You can omit the triple sec if you like, but I love the extra citrus flavor paired with the watermelon.
- If you’re not a fan of spiciness, you can use less jalapeno (or none at all for a plain frozen watermelon margarita).
- For some added sweetness, add some agave syrup or a watermelon simple syrup.
EXPERT TIPS
- Feel free to add more or less ice depending on how thick or thin you want your margaritas.
- For a less spicy result, scrape the seeds out of the jalapeno peppers before blending.
- Make this drink in larger batches if your blender is large enough. It’s a great way to quickly and easily make a crowd pleasing drink!
- The more you blend your margaritas, the thinner they’ll be. If your blender has a frozen drink mode that’s a good tool to use to ensure the perfect frozen margarita consistency.
FAQs
What makes a margarita spicy?
Most spicy margarita recipes include some kind of pepper, often jalapeno peppers or serrano chiles.
Are jalapenos super spicy?
The amount of heat depends on how much of the seeds you leave in the pepper. Most of the spiciness comes from a compound called capsaicin, and compared to most spicy peppers jalapenos are fairly mild.
Why do you put triple sec in margaritas?
Adding triple sec (an orange liqueur) is common when making margaritas, as the orange flavor pairs perfectly with the tequila and lime juice.
