Ingredients Needed
What you need to make this tropical Malibu drink.
* Pineapple Juice – Pineapple juice is the perfect fruit juice to pair with the cocktail ingredients.
* Sprite – Any lemon-lime soda or ginger ale works excellent for this recipe.
* Malibu Rum – Malibu rum has a light pineapple flavor, which helps create a tropical flavor in the drink.
* Blue Curacao – Bright blue will help create a fun pop of color in the drink and sweeten it up.
* Ice Cubes – I love serving this drink over ice. As the ice melts, the cocktail mellows a bit.
The Blue Curacao will be the last thing to add.

Variations to Recipe
- For a more pina colada flavor, add 3/4 ounces to 1 ounce of creme de coconut to the cocktail.
- You can swap the pineapple juice for orange, grapefruit, etc. Any type of fruit juice works; we just prefer pineapple.
- Add some fresh lime juice or lemon juice to create a tart twist.
- Use sparkling water or even a club soda to replace the lemon-lime soda if you would prefer.
- If you don’t have Malibu, you can use plain white rum. You can also swap it with vodka or tequila to create a more potent cocktail.
- Add less or more of each ingredient to create the perfect balance of flavors.
Tips For Success
Do not make this drink in advance. Due to the ice and the soda, you want to make and serve immediately to have that bubble from the carbonation.
You can add less or more Malibu rum to make your drink more robust or weaker.
I always recommend starting with chilled ingredients. That way, they are all chilled, so you have a crisp cocktail that is sweet and cold.
FAQs
What does Blue Curaçao taste like?
Blue Curacao tastes like citrus, a Larah citrus. It has a bit of an orange-like flavor that offers a bitter finish. So, it is an excellent mix-in for cocktails and any mixed drink you plan to make.
What type of glass should you use for the Blue Hawaiian?
You can use any type of glass for this drink. I used a Mason Jar-style glass, but a hurricane cocktail glass or a highball glass is another great option.
What is the closest thing to Blue Curacao?
Swap with Grand Marnier, pomegranate juice, Triple Sec, or even Cointreau if you can’t get the Blue Curacao. All can be used, but just know it will alter the cocktail’s flavor.
