Ingredients For This Cucumber Margarita
CucumberโWash and slice your cucumber for this drink. You will want thinner slices, as this will slowly release a cucumber flavor into the drink.
LimeโFresh lime is best as it adds the perfect acidic component to balance out the sweet and powerful tequila.
Silver tequilaโI used it for this recipe, but you can use any plain tequila to give it that classic margarita flavor.
Orange liqueur or triple sec- adds more acid to balance the flavors. Triple Sec is a common ingredient in traditional margarita recipes.
Agave syrupโAdding agave syrup sweetens the drink and helps tame the citrus’s sourness. You can always add less or more to flavor your cocktail.
Toasted coconutโUsing toasted coconut for the rim elevates the flavor of this drink to a whole new level. And it adds a crunchy texture to the drink.
Mint – Fresh mint will help add an earthy tone to the drink. This is optional, but I do say it is very delicious.
Lime juice – Fresh lime juice is best, but if you need you can reach for bottled lime.
Coconut waterโCoconut water will give this a light and refreshing taste while offering a mild coconut flavor.
Tajin, or margarita salt, glass rim – You can choose how to serve your drink. A tajin rim will add some spice, or a classic salt ring is also a great option.
Mint sprig, lime wedge, or cucumber slice as garnishโYou can garnish this coconut margarita any way you like. I used mint and cucumber slices.

- You can use fresh basil leaves instead of mint for a more herbal flavor.
- Use coconut cream instead of coconut water to create a creamy margarita recipe.
- Add some cantaloupe or honeydew for a melon flavor that pairs well with the cucumber.
- You can add ingredients into a blender with ice and make a frozen cucumber margarita instead of serving over ice.

Tips for Making
- If you want a more robust cucumber flavor you can muddle a few of the cucumber slices to help enhance the flavor.
- Make sure to use quality tequila for a smoother and lighter flavor.
- You want to use the lime to help balance the tequila’s sweetness and sharpness. Adjust as you see fit.
- If you add ingredients to a shaker, shake well, and pour into a glass, it helps to make sure the ingredients are fully mixed and can create a frothy texture.
- When you rim the glass, make sure the rim is wet with agave. Then, roll in the toasted coconut flakes.
FAQs
How do I properly muddle cucumber and mint?
If you want to muddle the cucumber in the bottom of the glass with some mint to help enhance its natural flavors, here’s how: Add the sliced cucumber and mint. Then, press down firmly with a spoon or muddle. Move around a bit to release juices. Don’t overmash, or it can make it taste unpleasant.
Can I substitute coconut water with another ingredient?
You can use sparkling water, club soda, lemon-lime soda, or ginger ale. The coconut water adds a nice flavor to the drink in a light form. But you can swap it out if you prefer.
What kind of glass should I use?
You can serve this margarita in a glass, rock glass, or any other type. Just use whatever glass works for you. It doesn’t have to be fancy at all.
