INGREDIENTS FOR MISSISSIPPI HOT CHEESE DIP
- Sour Cream – adds a nice tangy flavor and smooth texture.
- Cream Cheese – for a creamy base that gets melty and gooey in the oven.
- Sharp Cheddar Cheese – pairs perfectly with the ham and provides a nice cheesy flavor.
- Diced Ham – this is a great way to use leftover ham if you have it.
- Hot Sauce – you can omit this if you like, but the subtle kick of heat is what makes this dip downright sinful!
- Worcestershire Sauce – for an extra dash of savory flavor.
- Seasonings – garlic powder and onion powder help deepen all of the flavors of the other ingredients.
- French Bread – carve out most of the center of the bread but leave a layer inside so the dip won’t leak out.
- Green Onions – diced green onions make for a delicious garnish that provide a pop of color.
- Crackers – this dip goes perfectly with some sturdy, buttery crackers for dipping.

HOW TO MAKE HOT HAM AND CHEESE DIP
- Preheat oven to 350 degrees and line a cookie sheet with parchment paper.

Make sure the ingredients for this cheese and cream cheese dip come up to room temperature to make it easier to mix them together!
- Mix in the Worcestershire sauce, garlic powder and onion powder.
- Fold in the cheese and diced ham.
The combination of tender ham and melty cheese makes this one of the best hot dip recipes we’ve tried!
- Scoop into the bread bowl. Wrap the bread bowl with foil and bake in the oven for 35 minutes.
- Remove the foil and continue to bake for another 10 – 15 minutes or until the cheese is slightly golden brown.
- Remove from oven and garnish with green onions. Serve hot and enjoy!
POPULAR VARIATIONS AND SUBSTITUTIONS
- For even more savory flavor, add bacon bits. We stay away from the imitation ones, and use these real bacon bits!
- Choose a different kind of cheese like pepper jack, or combine pepper jack and cheddar for a super tasty cheese blend.
- This can be baked in a regular baking dish as well if you want to forego the bread bowl.
- Use Greek yogurt instead of sour cream for a slightly lighter result.
- If you like your dip extra spicy, add more seasonings like cayenne pepper, chili powder, or red pepper flakes. Other warm spices like paprika and cumin are also good options for addition flavor.
- French bread is my choice for the bread bowl, but you could also use sourdough or any other crusty and hearty bread.
EXPERT TIPS
- Serve with pieces of crusty bread (both toasted and untoasted are tasty), your favorite crackers, some nice sturdy chips, or veggie sticks.
- Be sure to let the refrigerated ingredients sit out at room temperature for best results. It will be much easier to mix everything together if it isn’t right out of the fridge.
- If you have leftovers, I recommend scooping the rest of the dip out of the bread bowl and transferring to an airtight container in the fridge. It will be good for 3 to 4 days. You can enjoy it cold or microwave it or put it back in the oven to heat it up. The bread bowl should be either eaten or discarded at that point.
- I don’t recommend freezing this dip, as much of the flavor and texture will be altered when you thaw it.
- Don’t get rid of all of the bread you scoop out to make the bread bowl! You can serve those bread chunks as one of your dipping options.
Great to pair with just about any dippers, this dip is so good you may just want to eat it by the spoonful!
